How to Use Instagram to Appeal to Job Applicants

Business owners today understand that your company culture is of major interest to potential employees. Job seekers are no longer solely concerned with how much they’ll make should they come work for you; they want to know what their daily experience will be like too. It can often be hard to describe this during the interview process, which is why using social media platforms like Instagram is extremely helpful. If you’re looking to use Instagram to help brand your business, here are a few tips:

Give a “day in the life” by allowing an employee from each department to take over the account

Allow potential new hires to really get a sense of what life is like at your business by doing employee takeovers. One day, turn the Instagram account over to someone from your marketing department, then to accounting, then to another department. Let them post pictures throughout the day that illustrate what their life and job entail. What kinds of projects are they working on? What’s the view like from their office or cubicle? Who do they interact with on a daily basis? This visual experience makes it easier for a potential employee to envision themselves inside your office.

Take pictures of aspects that make your company unique

Maybe you have a really fun lobby in your office, or perhaps your break room is stocked with delicious treats. Showcase these items on Instagram. It adds some personality, plus subtly highlights the perks of coming to work for your business. If you have other unique features at your company, such as local art or awards that you’ve won recently, add those in too.

Use it to promote jobs that you have available

If you’ve got a job open in your sales department, find a way to promote this in your posts. Take a picture of a group of your sellers together having fun, for example, and mention that they’re looking for someone to join them in the caption. Then include information about where someone who’s interested could submit a resume and cover letter.

Millennials are becoming more and more intrigued by Instagram, so by getting involved on this platform, you have a better shot at reaching this highly valuable group of potential employees. Additionally, many job seekers explain that they’re looking to work for a company that understands the importance of embracing technology. By establishing a presence on Instagram, you show that your business is aware of changing trends, and that your company embraces these trends instead of trying to hide from them, hoping that they go away.
