Have applicants self-select
When you want to see who’s really interested in working for you, try a recruiting technique that essentially gets people to self-select, leaving only the most passionate potential employees. There are several ways to do this, including open houses. When you host an open house, you know that everyone in attendance was motivated enough to show up. They’re also interested enough in your company to take time out of their day to come and see you. As an added bonus, you’ll get to see how these individuals interact with one another, which can shed some light on team chemistry should you choose to hire one or more of these people.
Encourage group interaction
Speaking of group interaction, it’s essential when you’re recruiting. One-on-one interviews are important, sure, but if you hire a candidate and find out that they turn the workplace into a toxic environment, you’re quickly going to regret your choice. To prevent this from happening, build group interaction into part of the recruitment process. You want to see that the people you’re bringing on board are team players, and that their personalities will mesh well together.

Innovative companies are using new and different techniques during their hiring, including the use of video interviewing. This flexibility is appealing to candidates, plus it shows that your business embraces new technology, which is another desirable trait to a potential employee.
Don’t pigeonhole yourself as you recruit
While you need your employees to have certain skills in order to get the job done, understand that there are some things you simply can’t teach, like enthusiasm, dedication, and the ability to co-operate with others. Therefore, if you meet someone who has these personality traits but lacks the skills, don’t immediately rule them out. It’s easier to teach someone to use a computer program or learn certain terminology than it is to have a positive outlook on life.
