3 Ways Recruiters Can Provide Value to Candidates

In recruiting, it is not only important to provide value to your clients, but to also provide value to candidates. You will have a difficult time attracting top talent to work with you if what you offer isn’t much.

There are three ways that you can stand out among many other recruiters and provide value to your candidates:

1. Access to the hidden job market

As a recruiter, it is important that you have more opportunities to sell than only what is on the job boards.  When you have access to opportunities before your client has advertised, you are able to provide your candidate valuable access to the hidden job market.

When a candidate is able to get in front of a hiring manager before anyone else, you have given that candidate an opportunity to land the job with little to no outside competition.

2. Expert resume tips

While top talent can sweep a hiring manager off his feet during the interview, it is important to set that candidate up for success when it comes to first impressions.  The best way for a candidate to make a great first impression with a hiring manager is to first have a stellar resume.

There are so many skilled candidates out there who simply do not have a clue when it comes to resume formatting and presentation.  As an expert recruiter, you know what will capture your client’s interest.  Use this knowledge to help top talent better portray key skills and experiences on a resume.

3. Expert interview guidance

A good recruiter understands what the hiring manager is looking for in an interview.  She will know the hiring manager’s interview style, the company culture, and what a candidate should expect upon entering the interview room.

Before your candidate ever interviews with your client (via phone or in-person), be sure to prepare the candidate ahead of time.  Reviewing the job description again and discussing the key job responsibilities versus the candidate’s experience is a great place to start in interview preparation.

In addition, it is smart to give the candidate a run-down of the hiring manager and his background.  I always like to direct my candidates to the hiring manager’s professional LinkedIn profile.  This allows the candidate to get a good feel for the hiring manager’s background and where he came from.

Providing valuable information to your candidates such as the hiring manager’s interview style and types of questions that may be asked during the interview are all tips that will help your candidate be as prepared as possible.

Typically, I also discuss what would be expected from the candidate during the interview.  Recommending types of questions to ask at the end of the interview and ensuring that the candidate understands that closing the deal is important are ways that I provide excellent value to a candidate.
